History of the museum

The beginning of the 1970s. The „Possession” campaign is introduced. It is in these times that the owners of pre-war, damaged and technically unfit cars are fined by the local authorities because they have old, sad vehicles parked in their yards.

Sending such a car to the scrapyard also involved huge complications, because it had to be cut into pieces with a chisel or an ordinary hand saw. It was practically at this time that the Automotive Museum collection began to be created. In those days, an unattainable dream, the king of the road was the honest MERMAID, and the old vehicle was obtained for free or for a symbolic PLN 1. It was „just” necessary to find a way to store it until later, when it will be restored. Many of our friends who had their own fields and gardens took various trucks, cars and motorcycles for storage.

Interior of the Museum In the 1980s, we began to systematically reconstruct cars so that they could move on their own. We opened the Automotive Museum in 1995 in Otrębusy near Warsaw. Currently, the collection includes approximately 300 historic vehicles. The oldest vehicle is the TITAN tractor manufactured in the USA from 1895. The oldest truck: Mercedes from 1913. And a FIAT passenger car from 1919. The exhibits include passenger cars, trucks, buses, airplanes, strollers, bicycles, motorcycles, and operational tanks. Currently, several dozen vehicles are under reconstruction, including the famous Polish 7TP tank and the TKS reconnaissance tank. A real rarity is J. Stalin’s ZIS convertible, Lody Halama’s Mercedes 170V, also a convertible and many other cars used by Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and Jan Kiepura. Our vehicles are experiencing their second youth. All of them are restored in accordance with the rules applicable at the time of their creation.

We organize many cultural events such as: „The Centenary of the Automotive Industry in Poland”. We organize many exhibitions in Poland. Among others: „Last Sunday on Main Street” and the annual „Auto-Tour”. The museum is visited by many guests from Poland and abroad. Press articles and television programs about our museum appear in the United States, France and England. Currently, it is the largest facility of this type in the country and one of the largest in Europe. Undoubtedly, the showcase of the Brwinów commune. We save national cultural treasures, for which we received a diploma of recognition „For a special contribution to the good of the Republic of Poland” from the Prime Minister.
